| KS2 - Year 4 to Y6 & Common Entrance
We recognise that due to many factors, too many young people are not reaching the standard they should be working at by the end of KS2. They are therefore not sufficiently prepared for secondary school. Our ultimate aim is to provide each young person with the teaching and support they require in order to perform to their full potential by the end of KS2. Lessons are taught in classes of about 8 students and we have an upper limit, with a maximum of 10 students in each class. Our approach to teaching is traditional and discipline is maintained at all times to create the best learning environment. Lessons are delivered by fully qualified secondary school teachers with years of teaching experience. Our teachers are selected based on their qualifications, experience and, more importantly, an enthusiasm for teaching. Teachers undergo a rigorous selection process and we only employ teachers who can make a real difference to the performance of the students they teach. Guarantee to parents All students sit
a diagnostic test and together with observation in the first term we
predict the minimum level your child should achieve by the end of KS2.
As long as the student studies with us for a full academic year, and
abides by school rules, we will guarantee a minimum level for each of
the three subjects. If the student fails to achieve the grade we predicted
at the end of KS2 for that subject we will refund you in full.
The importance of KS2 Despite the controversy surrounding KS2 SATS, a high performance in Key Subjects by the time a child reaches the end of primary school is vital. Irrespective of whether or not a student has taken the end of KS2 SATS in primary school, on arrival at a secondary school students are usually put into sets and this set is likely to determine the final GCSE grade they obtain. If a student is put in a lower set at the first opportunity for streaming, it becomes more difficult to move up as they progress though secondary education. Our KS2 programme focuses on giving young pupils the solid grounding they need in English, Maths and Science. On arrival at Excel in Key Subjects, each student is set a target and most of our students are expected to reach level 5 or higher at the end of KS2. Students who are taking common entrance examinations are given special help to prepare them.
