Fees and Semesters

The academic year is organised in Semesters. There is an initial period of Diagnostic and Alignment, followed by two semesters.

Diagnostic and Alignment

On joining, every student has to undergo an initial Diagnostic and Alignment, which consists of four sessions. During this period, each student will sit a test in each subject and also have an interview with each subject teacher. Teaching sessions are included and the subject teacher will have an excellent opportunity to learn about the strengths and weaknesses of the student in that subject. For students stating at the beginning of the academic year in September, the four Saturday sessions last from September to October. This is followed by two semesters

The Diagnostic and Alignment sessions are compulsory, irrespective of when the student starts.

The Autumn-Winter Semester - this consists of 12 Saturdays from October to February.

The Spring-Summer Semester - this consists of 12 Saturdays from February to early June.

One-to-one teaching

.The student spends about 2½ to 3 hours with the subject teacher each Saturday. For about 1½ hours of this, he/she is given individual attention on his/her particular area(s) of need. The student spends the rest of the time practising other skills or attempting examination-type questions.

General information about fees

All our fees include free Exercise books, Revision Guides and past examination papers.

All cheques should be made payable to Excel in Science. Alternatively, you can pay by: BACS - bank transfer; cash directly through any branch of the HSBC bank (see our account details below) or by Standing order.

The full fee for each semester is due before a student starts except where they have chosen to pay in two instalments or by standing order. For payments by Standing Order, the first instalment is due after the diagnostic and alignment sessions and before the start of the semester. Standing Order only applies when a student joins for more than one semester.

Parents who wish to use the standing order method of payment should ask for specific details relating to their child's chosen course of study. Parents with two students will receive a discount of 5% provided each student takes two or more subjects. A 5% discount also applies to the fee paid by an existing student each time a parent/student introduces another student. There is a substantial discount for students who register for both the Saturday Classes and also Easter Revision.
